Getting videos onto Archos player?

Can anyone tell me how do you get videos onto an Archos AV 500? The manual i have only tells me how to put things on the player through hard drive use. But i want to know how you get videos on the Archos to actually view it, not store it. I have tried several times to figure this out but with no joy. Any help please

    Hard drive mode allows you to copy movies over to the Archos, you can then view them when you disconnect it from the computer. When copying the videos over, make sure they go into the ‘video’ folder on the Archos. If you didn’t do that, you might have to use the file browser to find the movie and then watch it.

    U have to find a program to convert the files first.iPod just supports mp4 format.
